Brazilian Buttocks Lift

Buttock Augmentation is a procedure that makes the buttocks fuller or more proportionate with the rest of the body. This is achieved by extracting fat from other areas of the body such as the thighs, abdomen, and back and injecting it into the buttocks.

Who Can Benefit From Buttock Augmentation/Fat Transfer?

If you feel your buttocks are too flat or not in proportion to the rest of your body, you may be a good candidate for buttock augmentation through fat transfer. You must have enough fat in the other parts of your body, however, to achieve a good result. The results of fat transfer to the buttocks are generally superior to gluteal implants, as they are more natural looking and feeling. Additionally, augmentation with implants has more risk than buttock augmentation with fat transfer, including infection, extrusion, and malposition of the implants.

What is the Procedure Like?

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia. You will be given a local anesthetic as well to numb the areas where the fat will be extracted and where it will be injected. The procedure takes one to four hours to complete.

In a process similar to liposuction, a small tube called a "cannula" is used to extract the fat from the thighs, abdomen, back, and other areas of your body. A tiny incision is then made in the buttocks, and the fat is carefully injected. The new shape of your buttocks is sculpted through the combination of removing fat with liposuction and placing the fat with injections.

You will need to spend one night under observation, but you may return home the day after surgery.

What Can I Expect During Recovery?

A special compression garment will be provided for you. This garment is custom-made specifically for buttock augmentation procedures. You will be able to sit down the next day and return to work in about a week after the procedure. Within three weeks, you should be able to begin your exercise program again.

Swelling, bruising, and some minor pain can be expected after the procedure, but this can be managed with prescription pain medication. Most of the discomfort is felt in the area where the fat has been extracted, not where it has been injected.

The results of buttock augmentation/fat transfer are permanent. Results from liposuction will last for many years, possibly a lifetime if you maintain your condition and health. Some of the transferred fat may not survive the transfer process, but at least 70% (and often more) of the transferred fat will survive. The transferred fat remaining after healing will last forever.

What Are the Risks of Buttock Augmentation/Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is very safe. Because the fat comes from your own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction. Infections can occur at the extraction or injection areas, but this is extremely rare and usually resolves with antibiotics. Compared to the risks of augmentation with implants (infection, extrusion, poor position, firm feel), fat transfer provides a more natural looking and feeling result using your own tissue.
