Perlane is an FDA-approved wrinkle filler made from hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the connective tissue of your skin. Perlane is formulated to penetrate deep beneath the dermis, working from the inside out to restore volume and give the face a more youthful appearance. Perlane is closely related to Restylane, the world’s best-selling dermal filler. Losing fatty tissue in your face is a normal part of aging, and the impact of significant weight loss, gravity, and over-exposure to the sun are readily apparent over the years. Each face ages in its own unique way, but gauntness, wrinkling, and vertical folds and lines on both sides of the mouth are common. The rounded fat pads in the cheeks – a hallmark characteristic of the youthful face -also thin and migrate downward as we get older, giving the face a tired or worn look. Candidates for Perlane TreatmentPerlane is used for treating moderate facial wrinkles and folds, while Restylane (a similar product) is used to treat less severe wrinkles. The nasolabial folds are the most common area of treatment with Perlane. In some cases it has also been used for restoring volume to the cheekbones and mid-face. What to Expect During the ProcedureThe doctor will decide the best placement for Perlane after carefully evaluating the unique way your face is aging. Areas to be treated are numbed with a topical anesthetic to make the procedure comfortable; Perlane is then injected with a very fine needle to correct the contour irregularities present on your skin. Results of Perlane last 6 months or more. You will need touch-ups and repeat treatments to maintain the volume and wrinkle correction you desire over the years. What are the Risks?Hyaluronic acid fillers are effective and have proven to be very safe when administered in a medical setting by a qualified and trained doctor. Perlane offers another advantage in that you don’t need to be pre-tested for a possible allergic reaction to it, since it’s biodegradable and doesn’t contain ingredients that cause an allergic reaction in most people. We will learn about your medical history and ask you some important health questions to make sure Perlane is a good option for you. Side effects from Perlane are usually minor and temporary. You may have some bruising, redness or swelling at the treatment sites for a few days. It’s not unusual for uneven swelling to occur, with one side more prominent than the other. Typically, this lasts for a couple of days before it resolves itself. Ask Dr. Rubinstein for more information about possible side effects. |
