An arm lift, medically known as brachioplasty, is a type of plastic surgery performed with the goal of removing excess fat and skin from the upper arm. The surgery is a good choice for patients who have realistic expectations and are in good general health. Arm lift surgery provides benefits such as improved self-esteem, higher confidence, a more youthful appearance and a wider range of clothing options. Brachioplasty is typically done as an outpatient procedure under general anesthesia. In most cases, it takes around two hours plus the time needed for the anesthesia to wear off. Dr. Rubinstein begins by making incisions in the upper arm through which unwanted fat and skin are removed. Afterward, the skin that remains is tightened and stitched together. It usually takes two to six weeks for patients to recover. Dr. Rubinstein often suggests that patients wear a special compression garment during this time, and he may also prescribe pain medication to help with discomfort. Some patients may need to come back to have stitches or drainage tubes removed. In most cases, patients are able to return to work in one or two weeks. Brachioplasty results last a long time and offer considerable improvements to your appearance.
