What is IPL® Laser Hair Removal?
Unwanted hair removal can be a frustrating and time-consuming issue. Most treatments are short-term, and must be repeated every few weeks or less. For those who want a more permanent solution, laser hair removal is a top choice for many who want a long-term solution. With the latest in laser technology, you can have the smooth, hairless skin you want without frequent at-home or salon treatments.
How Does IPL® Laser Hair Removal Work?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL®) laser hair removal works by emitting pulses of intense light into the hair follicles. The pigment in the follicles absorbs the light and converts it to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and destroys the cells, preventing regrowth. The procedure is effective and involves only mild discomfort, especially compared with other hair removal methods. For the best results, you will need a series of treatments, approximately four to six sessions, several weeks apart.
Am I a Good Candidate for IPL® Laser Hair Removal?
Both men and women are candidates for laser hair removal. It can be done on the face, neck, ear lobes, shoulders, underarms, back, chest and abdomen, buttocks, pubic areas and bikini lines as well as on the cleavage, chest, arms, legs, hands, and toes. Most people can benefit from laser hair removal as long as their hair contains pigmentation. The procedure is most effective for those with dark hair and light skin. The laser targets dark hair more easily without being directed to the lighter skin, and the goal is to get the hair to absorb the laser light and not the skin. Therefore, it’s least effective on those with very little pigment (white, blonde or light red hair).
What Happens During the IPL® Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
After your consultation with Dr. Rubinstein, your first treatment will be scheduled. A topical numbing cream is usually applied before the procedure. Patients have described the feeling of the treatment itself as the sensation of a snapping rubber band against the skin. More delicate areas of the body may be more sensitive, but most people experience a minimum of discomfort. Most patients feel that the result of smooth, hairless skin with no need for time-consuming, inconvenient hair removal methods makes the procedure more than worth it.
What Can I Expect After IPL® Laser Hair Removal Treatment?
Some redness, swelling and itching around the treated areas is typical for a few days. Some patients report numbness and tingling, but these symptoms resolve quickly. To get the optimal benefit, you will want to schedule a full set of sessions. You’ll notice that once you’ve had several treatments, the amount and thickness of the hair in the treated areas is reduced in thickness and in amount) for a long period of time. However, maintenance treatments are l usually required to keep an area free of hair, although they can be further spaced out between appointments as time goes by.
How Much Does IPL® Laser Hair Removal Cost?
Most health insurance providers will not provide coverage for the costs of IPL® laser hair removal treatments. To make your procedure more affordable, Dr. Rubinstein proudly offers financing options for all of his patients. His office also accepts cash, personal checks, and credit cards. If you are not satisfied with how you look, it might be appropriate for you to consider getting IPL® laser hair removal.
