Dermapen® in Miami, FL

If you are suffering with a skin condition such as wrinkles and fine lines, saggy jaw line, crow’s feet, large pores, acne scarring, stretch marks, wound scars, loose thin skin, board-certified plastic surgeon Adam J. Rubinstein, M.D., F.A.C.S., has the solution: Dermapen®. Located in Aventura, Dr. Rubinstein offers Dermapen® to the residents of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and South Florida. Microneedling is used to rejuvenate and tighten the skin. It can reduce milia, rosacea, acne and pigmentation spots, and smooth and revitalize your skin. This cost-effective alternative to lasers is also used to improve scarring, including acne and surgical scars.

What is Dermapen®?

Dermapen® is an innovative, minimally invasive way to treat loose skin, stretch marks, acne scars, and other facial damage.  With few risks and side effects, Dermapen® is a quick and easy method for skin rejuvenation. The pen-shaped device has numerous fine needles that rapidly create tiny puncture wounds on the damaged areas. This creates a healing process in the skin, which starts to produce collagen and elastin, the elements of firm, smooth, radiant skin. The Dermapen® procedure improves fine wrinkles, acne scars, surgical or traumatic scars, skin tone and loose skin.  While the Dermapen® device moves over the skin surface, its tiny needles create micro-injuries that the body perceives as micro-damage. These tiny injuries kick start a healing response that triggers the production of collagen and elastin. The production of these crucial elements helps to tighten and tone skin and improve scars and fine wrinkles. The process is similar to laser resurfacing, minus the downtime. Also, Dermapen® can be used on any skin type, unlike lasers.  Positive changes in the skin can be seen immediately after the Dermapen® procedure, and the improvements also continue for months after each treatment.

Is the Dermapen® Procedure Painful?

Patients can opt for a shallow depth treatment, which is for the improvement of skin tone and texture only.  This type of treatment shouldn’t be painful or require any anesthetic.  Patients who want deeper treatment of wrinkles and scars will be given an anesthetic cream before the treatment, which will minimize any discomfort.  Depending on your skin type and treatment, the skin may appear red and irritated for a few days.

How Quickly Can I See Results?

After the first procedure, refreshed and revitalized skin should be visible within six to eight days.  The results will continue to improve over time.  A series of sessions is usually recommended to achieve the best results

Is Dermapen® Safe?

The procedure is minimally invasive, which means no downtime is involved, and the healing process is speedy.  The only side effects are minor, such as redness, stinging, itching and tightness of the skin. These will usually subside within a day or two with proper post care treatment.

Am I a Candidate for Dermapen®?

Because the Dermapen® device is minimally invasive, most people are candidates. Even so, anyone with open sores or skin infections should put off having the Dermapen® procedure, until the condition has healed. The following conditions are indications that an individual may not be a good candidate for the Dermapen® procedure. Dr. Rubinstein will discuss these factors with you during your consultation.
  • Inflamed skin or open wounds
  • Active acne or pustular rosacea
  • Dermatitis or infection
  • Pregnancy
  • Abnormal wound healing
  • Auto-immune disease
  • Active cold sores
  • Blood coagulation disorders

The Dermapen® Procedure

First, a numbing cream and/or cooling gel will be applied to the skin.  Next, the Dermapen® will be used over the skin. The Dermapen® contains dozens of very fine needles, which create several very small puncture wounds across your skin. As a part of the healing process, your body produces more collagen and elastin, thereby helping your skin become firmer and younger-looking naturally. A series of treatments may be needed in order to achieve maximum results. Your skin will begin looking and feeling firmer approximately six to eight weeks after the first treatment, as this is when new collagen will start to form. Improvement can be expected for up to a year afterward.

After the Procedure

Immediately after the Dermapen® procedure, your skin may appear red, swollen and irritated. This normally goes away on its own over the next couple of days. You will need to protect your skin from the sun, and use a skin lotion with an SPF of at least 30. A hat with a wide brim and sunglasses with UVA and UVB lenses are also helpful.

How Much Does Dermapen® Cost?

Most health insurance providers will not provide coverage for the costs of Dermapen®. To make your procedure more affordable, Dr. Rubinstein proudly offers financing options for all of his patients. His office also accepts cash, personal checks, and credit cards. If you are not satisfied with how you look, it might be appropriate for you to consider getting Dermapen®.
