Breast Reduction in Miami, FL

Women who have overly large breasts often do not understand why other women envy this trait because their large breasts are the cause of their neck or back problems. These women may need a breast reduction to relieve the discomfort and increase their range of motion. Fortunately, board-certified plastic surgeon Adam J. Rubinstein, M.D., F.A.C.S., serves patients in the Miami, Fort Lauderdale and South Florida from his Aventura practice.

What Is Breast Reduction?

As a surgical procedure that makes one or both breasts smaller, the results of a breast reduction or reduction mammoplasty are permanent. However, the surgery does not stop the results of pregnancy or the natural aging process, both of which can cause sagging over time. In some cases, women do develop new breast tissue that makes their breasts larger after breast reduction surgery. Dr. Rubinstein not only helps women with large breasts feel better physically with breast reduction, but he also help them rebuild their self-confidence. Along with neck and back pain, other common problems that come from having overly large breasts are rashes or infections under the breasts and bra strap grooves in the shoulders. Procedures that reduce the size also decrease the weight and volume of the breasts while reshaping them and making them look more youthful. In some cases, the bill for breast reduction surgery is covered by health insurance.

Minimize Your Bust and Increase Your Confidence

Exceptionally large breasts can negatively affect a woman’s self-image, making her feel self-conscious and insecure. The weight and volume can also negatively impact her health, causing thoracic kyphosis, a long-term result that makes actual change in the spine that could be very painful and make it hard to breathe. Many of the women affected by this decide to undergo breast reduction surgery to reshape their breasts. Having smaller breasts that are proportionate to their body can help relieve neck, shoulder and back pain as well as help them feel more beautiful. The impact of large breasts on self-image and health also affects some men, who may undergo the surgery as well. Dr. Rubinstein’s female patients can live more satisfying, comfortable lives after a breast reduction. Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Reduction?

Overly large breasts can dominate your appearance by making your body seem disproportionate. Large breasts can make it hard or even impossible to exercise as well. If you are experiencing any of the problems below, you could be a good candidate for breast reduction:
  • Deep grooves or sores on your shoulders from bra straps
  • Difficulty finding properly fitting clothes
  • Excessive sweating
  • Inability to join in sports or similar activities
  • Infections and rashes under the breasts
  • Poor posture
  • Psychological distress
  • Neck, shoulder and back pain
If you are 18 or older, are in good health and have realistic expectations for breast reduction, then Dr. Rubinstein will consider you for the procedure. He will conduct a comprehensive consultation and physical assessment to determine if it is the right solution for you.

How Is Breast Reduction Performed?

General anesthesia is required for breast reduction, and the procedure typically takes between two and four hours. To begin the surgery, Dr. Rubinstein will make an anchor-shaped incision around the areola and down to the crease beneath your breasts. Then, he will follow the natural curve of that crease so that he can remove the excess breast tissue, skin and fat. Next, Dr. Rubinstein will relocate your nipples and the remaining underlying tissues to a high position. The skin is then put back in place around the areola, and he will contour your breasts before closing the incision. The length of time that you will remain in our care will be determined by the extent of your surgery. Some individuals have to stay overnight for observation. If your treatment includes other cosmetic procedures to contour other parts of your body, such as liposuction or a tummy tuck, the length of your surgery and stay could be longer.

What Can I Expect After the Procedure?

Every patient recovers differently following a breast reduction. However, most are able to get up and walk around in one or two days. During the following two weeks, you could experience occasional aches in your breasts. A majority of patients can return to work in just three or four weeks. You should not participate in strenuous exercise for six weeks. During that time, it is important that you limit your exercise routine to light weight lifting, stationary biking, and walking. Many patients are satisfied with the firmer, lighter and smaller breasts that they can achieve with breast reduction surgery. If you get the procedure, you can become free from the physical discomfort of exceptionally large breasts. Additionally, your body will be more proportionate, allowing you to find a new level of confidence.
