Liposuction in Miami, FL

Do you have excess fat that will not disappear? Board-certified plastic surgeon Adam J. Rubinstein, M.D., F.A.C.S., is proud to offer liposuction to the residents of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and South Florida at his Aventura office.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction (lipoplasty) is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat from the body and leads to permanent results.

What is the Liposuction Procedure Like?

Liposuction can be performed in-office or in the hospital, depending on the patient and the procedure. Additionally, the procedure may be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. Under no circumstances will the patient feel pain during the procedure. To perform the liposuction, Dr. Rubinstein uses a small tube to remove the fat from the targeted area. The tube targets the area through tiny incisions. The fat is removed through suction because the small tube is attached to a vacuum machine.

What Can I Expect After a Liposuction Procedure?

Many patients can return home a few hours following the procedure, but alternative transportation needs to be arranged ahead of time. Depending on the intensity of the procedure, some patients will need to stay overnight for observation in the hospital. After the procedure, patients need to wear support garments for a duration of time and may need some extra help in the household. Full recovery time varies between patients, but many patients return to work a week following the procedure. Normal symptoms following the procedures are some slight discomfort, swelling, and minor discomfort. Dr. Rubinstein will prescribe medication to manage discomfort as needed. The stitches will dissolve, and swelling will subside in two to three weeks, revealing immediate results of the procedure.

Who is a Strong Candidate for Liposuction?

Individuals with pockets of fat on their body that look disproportionate are strong candidates for liposuction. Sometimes, individuals feel they have areas of excess fat that are unchanged by diet and exercise, and liposuction can resolve that concern completely. Typically, liposuction achieves optimal results in patients with skin elasticity. Patients with loose or sagging skin may benefit from a lift procedure or other fat-targeting procedure at our office.

What is Laser Assisted Liposuction?

Laser liposuction removes excess fat from the body with a specially designed laser to allow easier fat removal and tightening of skin following liposuction.

What is the Laser Assisted Liposuction Procedure Like?

Dr. Rubinstein may use general anesthesia or local anesthesia depending on the procedure and patient. Laser liposuction is performed through small incisions in the targeted area. Each incision is treated with a sterile liquid solution to reduce bleeding. A small tube is inserted through the incision, and Dr. Rubinstein uses fine movements to loosen the fat. A special laser is inside the tube which “melts” the fat for removal via an attached vacuum or syringe.

What Can I Expect Following Laser Assisted Liposuction?

Recovery periods for laser assisted liposuction are generally shorter than that of traditional liposuction methods. Most patients are back to work and all general activity within three weeks.

How Much Does Liposuction Cost in Miami, FL?

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure and, therefore, is unlikely to be covered by insurance. To make payment more reasonable for everyone, Dr. Rubinstein developed a financing program for all of his patients.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you lose weight when you have liposuction?

Yes, you may lose weight as a result of your liposuction procedure. However, it is important to keep in mind that liposuction is not a substitute for a balanced diet and regular exercise, rather it is a complement to your healthy lifestyle.

Does lipo hurt?

Your liposuction procedure will require the use of general or local anesthetic to make the procedure itself as comfortable as possible. Following your procedure, you may experience swelling, bruising, soreness or numbness in the treated areas, but this typically resolves on its own within the first week or two.

How do I prepare for liposuction?

Preparing for liposuction is similar to preparing for any other type of surgical procedure. Prior to getting liposuction, we recommend you stop smoking, discontinue using any anti-inflammatory drugs that may cause your blood to thin, and talk to Dr. Rubinstein about which of your prescription medications may be unsafe for surgery.
