Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a cosmetic procedure that corrects large or irregular labia.  Patients seek this procedure for cosmetic reasons, but also as a solution to personal hygiene issues and discomfort.

The labia minora may be enlarged or asymmetrical for a variety of reasons.  Such conditions can have a negative effect on a woman’s self-confidence.  Labiaplasty is designed to improve symmetry of the labia and improve self-confidence, without affecting sensation.

Candidates for Labiaplasty

Candidates for labiaplasty are bothered by large, protruding or irregular labia minora.  They may experience related difficulties with clothing, hygiene or intercourse as a result. 

The Procedure

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure that requires approximately 1 to 2 hours of operating time.  It can be done under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia.  Your surgeon will reduce the excess tissue of the labia minora while maintaining its natural shape.  Dissolvable sutures are placed to maintain the new shape while healing takes place.  Expect some minor swelling and discomfort for about two weeks after labiaplasty.  It may take several weeks or months to fully appreciate the results.

Risks of Labiaplasty
